Lagos - Algarve - Portugal
Lagos is a Portuguese town in the district of Faro, Algarve, it's a county, with about 14 600 inhabitants. It is located in the western, the western Algarve, facing the bay with the same name, "Lagos bay".
Administrative division
It is the seat of a municipality with 212.84 kilometers ² and about 28 000 inhabitants, divided into 6 parishes. It is bordered to the north by the Municipality of Monchique, Portimão on the east by the west to Vila do Bispo, Aljezur on the west and south coast is the Atlantic Ocean.

History
The first settlement in the region of Lagos, called Laccobriga or Lacóbriga, was founded about 2000 years before the birth of Christ by the Cynetes. This city was conquered by the Carthaginians, Romans, barbarians, Muslims and finally conquered by the Christians, that left the area with several brands of their passage with Its architecture, the physical and geographical names. It was from Lagos that left many of the Portuguese ships which in the fifteenth and sixteenth discovered the sea route aroun the Boa Esperança cape, in "South Africa", to India. Many navigators of the Portuguese discoveries are from Lagos, as Gil Eanes. As a result, currently, Lagos is called as \"City of Discovery\".
