FERRAGUDO
Leaning over the waters of the Arade river, with a curious attitude, the quiet town of Ferragudo, retain its great geological location with its steep streets and clipped.
The current village of Ferragudo, high this category on June the 30, 1999, and belongs in the County of Lagoa.
Situated near the mouth of the Arade river, clashing North with the parish of Parchal and South with the Atlantic Ocean, east with the parish of Estombar and the West with the Arade river. Has approximately the area of 5,74 km2 and its population is around 3000 inhabitants.
The county of Lagoa, Algarve, has an area of 93,60 Km2, approximately, in which the total number of residents around 20.453, according to the 2001 census results.
The county, currently have 6 parishes: Ferragudo, Parchal , Estombar, Lagoa, Carvoeiro e Porches.
The population of the county are located next to E.N. 125(2)(a) and near the coast, as the case of Carvoeiro and Ferragudo.
The county border with the count's o Portimao and Silves, limited South with the Atlantic Ocean.
The zone was chosen by Phoenician, Roman, Cartagineses, attracted by the mouth of the Arade River, where they developed the fishing and salting fish industry, roman mosaic and numismatics art also. Should have been on the 14th century, when the fishermen began to use this place to face the rigorous winters and built the current human frame of the parish.

Initially area of fishing and agriculture from the seventies of last century, tourism was implanted, as on all the Algarve coastline, Tourism became the main economic activity, with hotels, comerce, services, as well as some small industries, coexisting with agriculture and traditional fisheries.
The cultural wealth of this area is marked in terms of tourism by its handicrafts, the pottery and artistic desserts.
The village of Ferragudo is implanted in the left bank of Arade River, overlooking the town of Portimão, is characterized by its cluster of whitewashed houses and narrow streets that lead invariably to the waterfront.
Since ever the population of Ferragudo was linked to the sea and wildlife fishing day, taking in their sorrows and their joys, making them his fate.
